Bismillah Ceremony Cake: Designs and Prices
Short answer
A Bismillah cake usually carries "بسم اللہ" in Urdu or Arabic calligraphy, often with a modelled Quran, rehal or prayer beads, in ivory, soft gold, green or pastel. Expect Rs 4,000–7,000 for a 2 lb decorated cake and Rs 7,000–12,000 for fondant with modelled detail. Allow three to four days for calligraphy work.
The Bismillah ceremony marks a child's first formal Quran lesson, usually around age four. It is a proud, gentle occasion and the cake is almost always the centrepiece of the table.
Design elements
- "بسم اللہ" in Arabic or Urdu calligraphy, hand-piped or modelled in fondant
- A modelled Quran on a rehal, which is the most requested element
- Prayer beads, a takht or a small prayer mat modelled in sugar
- Ivory, soft gold and green — the traditional palette
- The child's name alongside the calligraphy
- Gold leaf accents, which suit the formality without being loud
Calligraphy needs time and a written source
Hand-piped or modelled Arabic and Urdu calligraphy is slow, precise work and it is the part most likely to go wrong. Send the exact text in writing rather than describing it, and allow three to four days. Ask the bakery to send a photo before dispatch so you can check the script before it reaches the table.

Keep it respectful
One point worth raising with your decorator: many families prefer that Quranic text is not cut through. A common solution is to place the calligraphy on a separate fondant plaque that is lifted off before the cake is cut, or to position it on the side rather than the top. Say which you would prefer when you order.
