Cake Ideas for a 1st Birthday in Lahore

First birthdays are usually the biggest party a child will have for years, and the cake decisions are genuinely different from a fifth or tenth birthday — mostly because the guest of honour has no opinion and will not remember it.

Main cake plus smash cake

The standard setup. A main cake sized for the guests, and a small separate cake — usually a bento or 1 lb round in soft colours — for the baby to demolish in front of a camera. It keeps the main cake photogenic and intact, and the smash photographs are the ones families keep.

Themes that work at one

• Cocomelon — by some distance the most requested for first and second birthdays
• Bluey, which has grown quickly for slightly older children
• Jungle and safari animals
• Rainbow and pastel designs
• A simple number 1 cake, which never dates
• The child's name in soft piped lettering

Printed beats sculpted at this age

Counter-intuitively, the cheapest option gives the most accurate likeness. An edible print reproduces the character exactly as drawn; a hand-modelled figure is an interpretation, and small characters with distinctive faces are hard to model convincingly. A one-year-old will not register the craft difference — but the parents' friends will notice if the character does not look right in photographs.

Two practical notes

First birthdays often involve a lot of small children and no orderly cutting moment, so cupcakes alongside a smaller main cake usually work better than one large cake. And if the party is outdoors between May and August, ask for fondant or ganache rather than buttercream — a first birthday party runs long and the cake sits out.
