Lotus Biscoff Cake in Lahore: Why It Took Over and What It Costs

Biscoff went from unheard-of to unavoidable in Lahore in about three years. It is now one of the most requested premium flavours across DHA and Gulberg, and it deserves the attention — but it is also frequently ordered by people who have not actually tasted it.

What it tastes like

Biscoff is a caramelised biscuit spread — warm, slightly spiced, closer to caramel and cinnamon than to chocolate. In a cake it usually appears three ways at once: blended into the frosting, layered as a spread between sponges, and crumbled over the finish. That gives a distinctive texture contrast that a smooth chocolate cake does not have.

Why it works so well here

The spiced, caramel register sits close to flavours already familiar in Pakistani desserts, so it feels novel without feeling foreign. It is also visually distinctive — that light tan colour and biscuit crumb reads instantly in a photograph, which has done a great deal for its popularity.

Who it suits, and who it does not

• Excellent for adult birthdays and small gatherings
• Very good as one tier of a wedding cake alongside chocolate and vanilla
• Strong in cheesecake form, arguably better than as a sponge cake
• Less suited to large mixed family gatherings — it is rich and distinctive, and some elders find it too sweet
• Not the safest choice for children's parties, where chocolate still wins

Because the surcharge is per pound it scales with size: a 1 lb Biscoff cake is a small upgrade, while on a 5 lb cake it is a meaningful addition.
